Norms of Scientific Assertion

Scientific assertions, I argue, should be justified and informative. I defend this dual norm account of scientific assertion. I articulate six arguments against factive norms of assertion in science: scientific assertions are not governed by a truth norm or a knowledge norm. I then illustrate the violation of informativeness and justification by two prominent scientific research programs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
